Press Corps

Chair: Emme Rackham

High School delegates from across the country have arrived at the Hilton Universal City to propose solutions to present-day and historic crises. As delegates in the Press Corps this year, you will represent reporters from Westwood Academy’s nationally-acclaimed student publication, the Westwood Journal, to cover three days of collaborative and engaging debate across geographically and temporally diverse committees.

Operating as an unmoderated caucus, Press Corps delegates will travel throughout committee rooms to take notes and interview other delegates. Utilizing the information they gather in various committees, delegates will write articles for publication on the Westwood Journal website and conduct social media reporting while experiencing everything the conference has to offer. The Westwood Journal’s high-skilled reporters will work to publish a variety of articles and social media posts throughout the conference weekend to keep their high school audience informed and engaged.

While delegates in Press Corps committees traditionally represent international news outlets, LAMUN XVIII will challenge delegates to present complex international issues to engage a high school audience. With the decline of print media and teenagers turning to social media outlets for news, delegates will be encouraged to think creatively about the future of youth journalism within the competitive environment of high school journalism.

Chair Letter

Dear Delegates,

My name is Emme Rackham, and I am thrilled to be the chair of the Press Corps at LAMUN XVIII. There are over a dozen intricate, complex, and multi-faceted committees covering a range of keystone global issues. Utilizing high school personas to bring a new light to media coverage, as Press we will focus on making journalism more accessible, more accurate, and more engaging for people of all backgrounds, ages, and educational levels.

Outside of Model UN, I work as an aid and substitute teacher at a Nursery through Eighth Grade private school. I have the unique opportunity to converse with middle school kids about social media, an increasingly digital world, and the increased dissemination of information. My research interests include global trade and business, intertwined systems of global governance, and historical ramifications of imperialism and colonialism.

This is my second time working staff for a Model UN conference and I am thrilled to be a part of this community! This is my first year on LAMUN staff and the Press Corps dais, I am excited to learn and grow as a committee.

The Press Corps provides a unique experience within Model UN:  to encourage committee members to experience Model UN from every angle, every committee, at every stage. Even more, journalists will write multiple types of pieces, including news stories, editorials, blog posts, and breaking news that will be published on the LAMUN Press Corps website.

I’m excited to see the diverse perspectives you’ll bring to covering Model UN international issue committees from various journalistic lenses.Welcome to the Press Corps.
